Road Bike Velo NewsA road bicycle is a synonym for the term racing bicycle. It is also used less formally for any bicycle designed for use primarily on paved roads, as opposed to off-road terrain. In general road bicycles have drop handlebars and multiple gears, although there are single and fixed gear varieties. |

MTB News Mountain bikingMountain biking entails the sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, whether riding specially equipped mountain bikes or hybrid road bikes. Most mountain bikes share similar characteristics that underscore durability and performance in rough terrain: wide, knobby tires, large frame tubing, front fork or dual suspension shock absorbers. The durability factor means a far heavier bicycle weight to rider ratio than their road touring cousins. |

Downhill cyclingDownhill biking (DH) is a gravity-assisted time trial mountain biking event. Riders race against the clock, usually starting at intervals of 30 seconds (seeded from slowest to fastest), on courses which typically take two to five minutes to complete. Riders are timed with equipment similar to that used in Downhill skiing. The placing is determined by the fastest times to complete the course; races are often won by margins of under a second. As the name of this discipline implies, downhill races are held on steep, downhill terrain with no extended climbing sections, resulting in high speed descents with extended air time off jumps and other obstacles. The UK's champion is Steve Peat( peaty) .The junior champion is Paddy Taylor. |
